Fall Season Begins with a Bard!

On Friday, September 23, CH 6, 10:00 A.M.,
“The Write Now Show” opens with a Bard.
William Shakespeare that is … and with the Question:
Is Shakespeare Still Relevant?
Two guests will join co-hosts Judy Saxon and Charlie Redner with hopes of answering this question in very much the affirmative. Shakespearean actor and teacher, Fred Thompson and LWV’s own Cee Cee Sloan, who heads the Shakespeare & Modern Cultural Society, will lead the charge. Come join us, you just might enjoy our educational and entertaining half-hour.

Here’s a verse that Charlie wrote for the occasion:

SHAKESPEARE HIDES FROM ME
By Charles Redner

Shakespeare hides from me
the deeper meanings of his genius.
Does he not care for lessor minds?
Or does he believe he can elevate humanity
With simply: thus, thou, and, thou art?

Nevermore my struggle in solitude
the Bard has sent me a lonely muse
to light my way as a candle
illuminates his messy desk each evening.

A line, a line, throw me a line, dear goddess.
or I shall stagger off this stage
a failure, a wretched failure.

To be or not to be that is the question.
A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse.
Beware the Ides of March.

Enough. Enough. Those are his famous lines.
New ones please my useless fairy.

Come-on baby light my … candle.

Muse, may the Doors of heaven close thee out
And Morrison smites thy witless soul.
